Operation Uganda
Jordan House childrens home and community development initiatives
Make a difference, impact a community, transform a nation
The committed staff of Operation Uganda are bringing much needed hope and a future to every child in their loving care – no longer are they on the streets, living on rubbish dumps, or in clinical institutions; but are a dynamic and valuable part of a community, interacting and participating through school, community and church. Operation Uganda is truly inspiring and is run by Russ and Jenny Barton, originally from Brisbane and who have been in Uganda taking care of these precious children for approximately 4 years at Jordan House. They have opened up the opportunity for others to share and be a part of the wonderful work their team is doing.
Your incredible Ugandan experience will include combining work at the orphanage, perhaps building, painting etc, activities with the children and a 3 day wildlife safari. If you’re travelling with your own team, perhaps you may like to extend your 11 day trek to 14 days, and include quad biking on the Nile River also! Whatever duration your visit, the experience will be truly memorable and we are sure you will want to visit again. We are excited to bring this inspiring and quite possibly life-changing Ugandan experience to you!
Travelling over there is easy … if you’re travelling on your own simply join an 11 day trek (dates below), or if you wish to take a team and travel as a group, just contact our office to arrange your visit.
Why not take the opportunity to extend your trip and explore more of amazing Uganda … perhaps visit the famous gorillas in the mist and on the way home, stopover in Dubai for some desert adventures. COHAD
Build a home for orphans in Africa! Join a COHAD team for a truly unique travel experience that will remain in your heart forever.
COHAD (Children of Hope and Dignity) sends teams to rural Kumi in Uganda (approx 5 hours from Kampala), to build homes for children who've been orphaned by AIDS and other disease. Each house built becomes a home to an AIDS widow and 8 orphans, who become a family unit for their entire lives. These children are empowered to change their destiny through education and self motivation. Join a COHAD team and make a difference!
A unique partnership between the locals of Kumi and people from around the world, this project is powerfully assisting in giving these children hope and a better future. COHAD is modelled on the Watoto programme and provides initiative to the community in order to foster a new attitude within the community Ð not just aid which sees the people stuck in the same situation.
Self-sustainability is an important part of COHAD. Establishing business models that can support the project, provide employment and raise the living standard of the entire community is all part of the COHAD model. Plans are under way to establish intensive farming (aquaculture, milking cow, chickens, fruit, nuts, goats, nursery) flour mill, bakery, engineering and fabrication shop.
Can you help?
Everyone is welcome to join a COHAD team, no skills required! Lots of interaction with the local children, chatting, playing soccer etc is assured, as well as hard work building a house!
COHAD Fact
In 2004 Gary Skinner, founder of Watoto, challenged Peter Hull to come to Uganda to join in partnering with an African community to help address the crisis caused by the AIDS epidemic. As of mid 2009, four COHAD houses have been built, with plans for many more!
Take this unique opportunity to extend your stay and explore amazing Africa! Contact the friendly team at Uplift to discuss this holiday of a lifetime!
*COHAD is a christian ministry and visitors will be expected to respect all Christian activities.
