Oberammergau History
The Oberammergau Passion Plays are a series of inspirational performances that occur every ten years - paying tribute to the suffering, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
The play's origins date back to 1633, when the Bavarian community of Oberammergau found itself under threat from the Bubonic plague. Town folk pledged that if God were to spare them, they would perform a play each decade to celebrate the life and death of Jesus.
Prayers were answered and the locals kept true to their promise, with the very first play presented during Pentecost in 1634, where a stage was erected in the local cemetery. Nowadays the performances are on a much larger scale, with over 2000 of the village's residents working together to ensure the spectacle honours the vow of their ancestors.
Such is the dedication of the residents, all male actors performing in the plays take part in a "Hair Decree" - from Ash Wednesday in 2009, all men are requested to let their hair grow to ensure they have an authentic look in time for 2010!

YOUR 2 NIGHTS IN OBERAMMERGAU
Uplift has partnered with a leading tour company which specialises in quality tours to the Oberammergau Passion Play. You can have total confidence that your tour will have that special 'difference,' providing a better and more fulfilling touring experience. For example, only category '1 A' seating is offered for the Passion Play, so you will have the best seats in the house!
Performances are presented in the German language and are a total of five hours in length. They commence at 2.30 pm and end at 10.30 pm during which there is a three hour interval to enjoy dinner.

Prices have already been contracted with most of the hotels and services for tour, meaning the pricing is very accurate and is NOT ambiguously based on 2008 rates. The only factor that could significantly affect the tour price will be negative or positive currency exchange rate fluctuations. This may affect the price either upwardsÉ or downwards.
